String Cheese Incident
Speaker 1Hello Earth, hello, what If that's the Earth where the cunt can pick a heck of a money?
Speaker 2You are on Mars, isn't that lovely? Yes, very curious.
Speaker 4Yes, All right, thank you for listening to the Greatest Non-Hits. I'm Chris and playing. What are we playing? Born on the Wrong Planet? Yes, the song Born on the Wrong Planet from the album Born on the Wrong Planet from the String Cheese Incident. All right, thank you so much for joining us. Uh, we're gonna. We're gonna cover a band that's, uh, under the radar somewhat. You know a big part of the jam band scene and this is their debut album from their 1996 first studio album, released january. Released January 1996 at Akashic Recording Studios.
Speaker 5So yeah, the.
Speaker 4String Cheese Incident jam band bluegrass. This is a band that's known for their eclectic blend of musical styles. It's not just bluegrass, or whatever.
Speaker 4I mean it's rock, it's bluegrass, it's jazz, there's electronic music in there. They really fill out a lot of space. Tremendous musicians. They were formed in the same year, 1996, in Crested Butte, Colorado. The original lineup is the personnel on this band, which is Bill Nershey on acoustic guitar and vocals. Keith Mosley is the bass guitar player, vocals the two elder statesmen, I would say the band. There's also Michael Kang, who's mandolin violin player fills in a lot of the space. And incredible musician, arguably the best of the lineup. They're all great. And michael travis, who plays percussion conga drums, provides vocals, multiple instruments. And there's some additional personnel that fills in. There's a tony furtado that plays some banjo, paul Armstrong plays a Hammond organ.
Speaker 4Liza Oxnard does some backup vocals, jamie Genover on bongos vocals and the didgeridoo. We'll talk a little didgeridoo later. There's Maya Dorn on flute. Stacey Bublow does some additional vocals and does some other the the flig dig. So, uh, the production team, uh, I guess the string cheese incident themselves produced this. But uh, jamie, you know we're contributed.
Speaker 3Steve McNamara did some mastering et cetera.
Speaker 4So anyway, uh, we're going to do what we always do.
Speaker 3We're going to do what we always do.
Speaker 4We're going to listen to all the songs. We're going to give you our top three, not hits at the very end. We're going to have a bunch of laughs along the way We've got.
Speaker 5We've got an ode, a shout out to the Cheeseheads.
Speaker 4This is what the.
Speaker 5This is the name of the following the Cheeseheads.
Speaker 4Little Wisconsin Overtone, but uh, shout out to the cheeseheads oh god, oh crap shout out to the wisconsin nymphomaniac there she is right there and uh, yeah, so we've got all that and more coming um. But yeah, again the musical style. It's a band that's known for their fusion of genres, combining elements of bluegrass, rock, jazz, funk. You can hear it in Tim's playing there. It's the performances, though.
Speaker 3Now Tim, I've never seen them live.
Speaker 4I've heard their songs at parties and all great.
Speaker 5But I think you really need to see them live in order to really understand what they're all about.
Speaker 4Tim could probably elaborate a little bit more on that. I think he's seen them about 20 times. They're very energetic, they're really fan-friendly and you can even hear it when you listen to the songs. Energetic, they're really fan friendly and you can even hear it like when you listen to the songs. They're kind of long songs, festival-y kind of songs that just go on for a long time but and you're just like running through the crowd. Yeah, you're running to get a beer or whatever. You know getting back and everybody's in a good mood, um, but anyway, what else can we say about this? Um, this is one of a few studio albums.
Speaker 4There's another one called one step closer, that we made out in 2005 uh, song in my head. It was in 2014. I've had a ton of songs in my head this week. I was watching. I was watching like the lyle and eric menendez. Uh, they have like a netflix documentary, so I saw that there's a lot of millie vanillie in that and those songs are now like can't get them out. Hopefully this will. This is definitely help. That was brutal, um, but getting back to the band, um, I guess they're really good guys.
Speaker 4Apparently they're into philanthropy. They've been involved in various charitable efforts and initiatives, often donating proceeds from concerts to support environmental and humanitarian causes. God bless them. It's definitely a cool thing. It's a part of the culture. When you go to the festivals and jam bands. Everybody's super smart and cool and all that. Yeah, they play festivals like Bonnaroo, electric Forest, high Sierra Music Festival. I don't know if Tim's ever been to any of those. I'm sure he has. Yeah, I can hear Wrong Planet in that. That's good. So before he wraps it up, again, thank you for listening. Thanks for downloading us. Wherever you download your podcasts, continue to support us. You know, hit us up and the like. Tim's going to wrap up.
Speaker 3He's going to join us.
Musical Analysis of Americana Band
Speaker 4And what else. I would say, yeah, there's just several songs on this album that, like Texas Jellyfish you know, later on in the album those are really good songs. Um, you know what are some other ones? Yeah, I mean, land's end was good. I mean, even resume man was decent. I thought bigger isn't better. It's kind of an ode to clapton, but but let's hear what Tim has to say. How you doing bud.
Speaker 6Hey doing well. Hey shout out to the aliens out there, Don't go taking us over too quickly. All right, at least listen to this album, Okay.
Speaker 1Pardon me, Tom, but could you rent me a U-Dry flying saucer? I've got to get back to the Earth.
Speaker 2The Earth, oh, the Earth will be gone in just a few seconds.
Speaker 6Keep us around, okay, that's all we ask, that's right. Keep those flying saucers WD-40'd for us, okay, that's right.
Speaker 4Give us your expert opinion on this album. What's your deal with it? Cause you have a better affinity to the band.
Speaker 6So we want to hear from you. Yeah, I've seen again cheese and small clubs and you know theater venues uh the hippodrome Baltimore DC um festivals. What do you like about them?
Speaker 4What's your hook with them? I think Because we did Mo last week. You said you like these guys better?
Speaker 6I think, it's hard to. Yeah, I think I like cheese a little bit more than Mo. But what they do is they really distill old Americana music and they bring it into the 21st century.
Speaker 6They're constantly trying to evolve with music and they will throw a crazy electro set into what they're doing and they play bluegrass and they'll be like before they play. We're going to play some more bluegrass and they'll be like before they play the. We're gonna play some more gold bluegrass for you after like these crazy rock, like spiraling, you know effects jams.
Speaker 6So uh, kyle hollingsworth, uh that he's not on this one, but he's not on this one, but he was um, he's from maryland and was uh taught by, I think, my high school piano teacher or something like that they took private lessons. There's a tie there, travis. I met Bill and said what's up? Kind of got like stage fright when I met him. It's just like.
Speaker 5Hey, you're great, I like he's like cool. Thanks.
Speaker 6I was like I like what you do. He's like cool, thanks. I was like I like what?
Speaker 4you do, he's like uh-huh. And then that's when rody politely removed you from there well, big gulps, see you later.
Speaker 6I mean, he's just chill. I I don't know, that's cool. I mean this band is uh, yeah and kang, with the way he plays guitar, mandolin and violin is just with vigor, with this crazy passion, the guy's you know Berklee, you see Berklee, he's been an EMT. You said he's had an interesting life, ski patrol Cool, definitely an athlete, a good person, an amazing musician. I can't say enough about these guys. They're just so humble and chill, that's awesome. What else yeah?
Speaker 4No, I mean, I think that says it all yeah no, I mean, let's listen, man, let's do it, let's get into it. This is Black.
Speaker 6Cloud. This is the very first song. These naughty computers. Oh at, these naughty computers. Oh dread these computers.
Speaker 4Very bluegrass-y. A lot of notes. Yeah, they want to preserve Americana, they want to preserve bluegrass. Bring it between your center. How much more black bluegrass Bring? It to 21st century.
Speaker 5How much more black could this be? And the answer is none Is that good?
Speaker 4Is that good? Yeah, I think it is.
Speaker 5Black clouds rolling up the valley.
Speaker 6Black clouds covering up the sun. Play his banjo on this. Black clouds rolling up the valley. How can I be short, john? It's Tony Furtado. Tony Furtado, yeah, they also collaborate with a lot of artists Keller Williams, okay.
Speaker 5Rivers rushing through the canyons collaborate with a lot of artists Keller Williams, okay.
Speaker 6They all harmonize again, like Fish and Mo. I think Nershi, keith and Travis and Kang all sing.
Speaker 4Right, it's sort of like a barbershop quartet, like layered on top of it. You know Barbershop braga. Yeah, I mean it's good though, but it is. It is barbershop. Yeah, this is Michael is Barbershop, yeah.
Speaker 6This is Michael. Yes, Michael K. He also plays guitar excellently and it's a truncated guitar. He's kind of smaller. Yeah, he's a smaller guy, Michael.
Speaker 4Travis does a good job too. Okay, I see they've got a wider range than Moe, maybe. Yes, for sure they're from Buffalo. These guys are from Telluride, colorado. It's more authentic in terms of the country, yeah.
Speaker 6They're mountain folk, they're mountain banjoists.
Speaker 4They're ski people. Yeah, this is very ski Mountain Nice.
Speaker 6Tony. Shout out to Vail oh my gosh Shout out to Beaver Creek. They do little mini ski festivals at the foot of the mountains, a lot of it, telluride especially. Yeah, that's what I've heard.
Speaker 1And a lot of their audience is there A little hard to repeat, it's technical. They are technical.
Speaker 5A lot of notes.
Speaker 2Let's make a choice now. Stick together or go our separate ways, Rolling on the river. That's where she'd be.
Speaker 4I like that. Don not split in there.
Speaker 1Hey, I know what might be fun.
Speaker 4Shout out to Don.
Speaker 2I know, yeah, this is what we'll do. We'll have a song, we'll all sing. You know, one of those roundy, roundy things.
Speaker 4There's a lot of roundy roundy things on that one. That was good.
Speaker 6Going round and round Black clouds. Well, we'll start out with these escargots. Alright, we're getting classy here. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4Shout out to Three's Company Alright. Next song Born on the Wrong Planet. Are we ready this?
Speaker 1is the Trigger, a Martian exploration vehicle, alright, this is the Trigger, a Martian exploration vehicle, all right man, george Washington man.
Speaker 2He was in a cult and the cult was in Aliens man. You didn't know that.
Speaker 4It's a great movie.
Speaker 1Laser-focused Yep Dazed lasers, earthlings, and this one not without intelligence or technological education?
Speaker 2Oh, these computers they're so naughty.
Speaker 4What about the?
Speaker 6horns. Where's that? Um, there's no credits for the horns.
Speaker 2So complex.
Speaker 4I could pinch them.
Speaker 6It's just horns overdub. Oh, maybe it's the piano. Uh, vocals, vocals.
Speaker 4Yeah, I mean, if it was a like from a keystrap, show it to Liza Liza, liza, liza Maya. Liza Oxen Maya.
Speaker 3Dorn Stacy Butler.
Speaker 6Yeah, we got some female singers here. All right, shout out to the stargazers out there.
Speaker 4You've got to love the stargazers.
Speaker 6Stargazing Little stargazing music.
Speaker 4He shot the Keith Mosley too. He's rocking this one and now it goes to the guitars. It's probably Nershey. Yeah, this is Nershey. He wrote this song as well. He wrote Black Clouds and this one.
Speaker 6I feel like Black Clouds is a modern day classic. Honestly.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 6For a folky bluegrass number. You'd think it was covered, but it's an original. That's what's cool about it. Yeah, it sounds like a cover. Yeah, that's pretty cool. But then, yeah, these are their sort of jam, filler mo kind of songs, although they don't play this that much what the fuck is he talking about?
Speaker 3I?
Speaker 1don't have any eggs coming at you. Hold on, people. I think I get griddles, all right.
Speaker 2I don't got my space suit.
Speaker 3Well, that you're now can be what I consider the past.
Speaker 2What the fuck is he talking about? Your now can be what.
Speaker 1I consider the future.
Speaker 6I'll get my spacesuit and your now is every bit as valid as my now Shout out to the people living in the moment here.
Speaker 2That's right, Maybe preferably not in front of a computer. But hey, I like this organ.
Speaker 3It's kind of like me Then we learned that the past must be real.
Speaker 2I must admit that I felt that way once or twice before.
Speaker 3Where. I can't think what to say as I walk into a control. Oh, for sure.
Speaker 4The backup singers and that hand and organ from Paul Armstrong. I think that was him yes, shout out to.
Speaker 6Paul, that's right In the dance.
Speaker 2The future must be real.
Speaker 3They could be your now.
Speaker 4Okay, yeah, that was another song.
Speaker 3What the fuck is he talking about?
Speaker 4Sit. The next couple plays out champ.
Speaker 6I'll bring my space suit. Hold on, we've got a little paddle cleanser for the next song, which was written by who was that? Tim O'Brien here we go. All that shit is fucking bullshit oh that was strong.
Musical Analysis and Banter
Speaker 4Okay, okay, yeah, no, I like that. That was a good palate cleanser. Now this is Lantern. Very interesting Instrumental, at least in the very beginning, I can. This is a good festival song.
Speaker 6Yeah, this is their Magnus Opus, magnus Opus, magna Opus. And now it's like their Magnum Opus, magna Opus.
Speaker 4It's like their Magnum Opus.
Speaker 6This is their Magnum Opus. Okay, and it's not even their song. It was written by Tim O'Brien. I know, I didn't even know that until he did this. I thought it was their song. It is now, I guess. Yeah, I didn't even know that until he did this.
Speaker 3I thought it was their song.
Speaker 4It is now, I guess. Yeah, I guess. So he wrote it for them. Well, he's just like a bouzouki player. No, he plays a lot more Mandolin fiddle, banjo mandichello. He's released more than 10 studio albums. Good for him, we should check studio albums. Good for him, we should check him out. What a song.
Speaker 6Also, the tempo is a little bit easier on this one. Travis is trying to speed it up, but the band's like slow down there, guy, oh yeah that's true.
Speaker 6The drums do sound like they're playing a little bit ahead if anybody was born on a different planet, it was definitely Travis. Michael Travis, why do you say that? Oh, he's just got that intense crazy eye when he plays his head's moving around his tongue. That intense crazy eye when he plays His head's moving around His tongue is flinging out of his mouth most of the time. It's a spectacle.
Speaker 4He's a spectacle. Yeah, I haven't seen any videos or anything like that.
Speaker 6Yet I'm surprised, his head doesn't fall off sometimes. How much he moves his neck, his head doesn't fall off sometimes.
Speaker 4How much he moves his neck. They should do a Michael Travis bobble at night. Yeah, they should. I haven't. I could make a little extra coin on the side Speeding up the tempo. This is cool. The festival is in full swing. They could almost pair this with a Renaissance festival too.
Speaker 2Hey, we can't even get into like a second-rate hotel, I mean a second-rate motel, you think?
Speaker 4Yes, very curious, very interesting, no, it is. This is interesting stuff for sure. Who's playing the guitar here? This?
Speaker 6is Kang, is it Kang? Okay, this is guitar, which I don't. Wikipedia has it wrong because he plays guitar on this. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, kind of this is his little tiny guitar.
Speaker 4Yeah, he's playing electric guitar. Uh-huh, and there she is acoustic Mm-hmm. He's usually electric guitar.
Speaker 6And there she is acoustic. She's usually always acoustic. Sometimes he'll plug in the Fender Strat, okay, and the audience will cheer that.
Speaker 4As one does in the other.
Speaker 6It's a nice melody Similar to Remobula, don't you think Kind of, yeah, a little bit. Yeah, it's in that same kind of key. It's overlapped Like C or G. Yeah, it's not as fast as Remobula. It's not as fast as Remobula, again also like Fluffhead or Fluff's Travels for the fish people. All these songs are kind of the same vein of construction, these long flowy parts. Bill sounds great here.
Speaker 4Oh, how cool, Love that ending man.
Speaker 6That's right Killer. Yeah, I feel like that song could have gone in more minutes, but I know it's.
Speaker 4Uh, it's so good, it is good. All right, this is the remington right. Hank, penny hank remington song.
Speaker 6Yeah, I believe so, any Hank.
Speaker 4Remington song yeah, I believe so. Yeehaw, yep, pink Penny. This goes all the way back to. Let's read about Pink Penny a little bit here. Yeah, it's a western swing genre. He was a comedian best known for his Backwoods character, that plain old country boy on TV with Spade Cooley. He was married to country singer Sue Thompson, sue.
Speaker 6Sue.
Speaker 4Hank Penny.
Speaker 1Well, so long as we've got some time to kill, I think I'll have a beer. I don't have no beer.
Speaker 5Like a boy.
Speaker 1Wow, is this for Toto?
Speaker 6Yeah, this is Tony. Tony is amazing. I think they cut this track to like give Tony some some cheese to cut on here. I hope so he's cutting on some cheese. Yeah, he's killing it. Does he ever go on tour with him too? No, I don't think so. Sorry if I'm cutting on some cheese there too. Chris, I don't know.
Speaker 4Oh, no, I haven't.
Speaker 6Oh, you haven't heard anything. Yeah, you haven't heard Smelt. Yeah, okay, I mean, I haven't smelt it, so that's just my BO If it isn't smelt.
Speaker 4Then it isn't delved. You know, it's like a Tree falling in the woods, kind of thing.
Speaker 6Yes, this has like a Less, quite Less Paul kind of thing going on Sure.
Speaker 4I'm glad they took it from the old West West on swing. This guy, penny, had some other hits. Get Yourself a Redneck and Bloodshot Eyes.
Speaker 6Steel Guitar Stop, that's a plane right there. Oh, we got Susie.
Speaker 3I wonder what Susie would think of this. Oh me Susie Chapstick, hey Susie Chapstick.
Speaker 4Hey brother, she was probably from there somewhere. Yeah, she's from Telluride, susie Chapstick she was cute.
Speaker 1Somebody's been down here with the ugly stick.
Speaker 6No, the cute stick.
Speaker 4Chevy yeah, she was an alpine ski racer.
Speaker 3Freestyle ballet early 70s.
Speaker 4Susie Chapstick. Keith is getting it.
Speaker 6Did you hear Keith right there?
Speaker 4She's from Rutland Vermont, Okay.
Speaker 6It makes more sense Shout out to Keith on that one.
Speaker 4Oh, yeah, he was killing it.
Speaker 5Try not to get into too much troubles, okay, okay.
Speaker 4Alright, this is Resume. Damn that.
Speaker 2They were wailing on that, it feels better.
Speaker 6Shout out to the job searchers out there Excuse me Russell, but I believe I requested the hand job. Shout out to the Wayne's World fans out there Got to put the explicit label on Get your hands to work On a resume, all right.
Speaker 5You don't want to say that during a resume. I'm your man. He said I work the door, I load your gear, when your boys get thirsty I'll go for beer, and if it ever breaks down I can even fix your van. This is Keith. Yeah, so good oh he's on sync. I work. Right down the road I got a melon stand. Yeah, the bassist I set up in a shady spot. I sell watermelons in a little good pot. Last year I made damn near 30 grand.
Speaker 4Yep, keith, mostly he's the one who wrote? It. You're right yeah.
Speaker 6Yeah, bill, this is Kang. That's Billy, this is Kang Got it.
Speaker 1They had so much fucking money in it.
Speaker 4Shout out to.
Speaker 5What's his?
Speaker 4name my cousin.
Speaker 5Joe Pesci.
Speaker 4Joe Pesci on the sound clip.
Speaker 5Dollar bill. You know, done it all when I've been around, had a lot of good jobs, seen a lot of rough towns. Like to offer you my services for hire. How much soft money can I expect to collect in exchange?
Speaker 1for my core values.
Speaker 5Sang bass in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Speaker 3He's a resume.
Speaker 5man, he's a resume man. If he can't do it, I don't know who can.
Speaker 6It says right here it says right there, don't be lying 50 years on the job and the man's only 45. It's got that extra five years of experience.
Speaker 4Yeah, 50 years on the job and man's only 45. Cool what the hell.
Speaker 5Is that the things that started feeling a little weird when he looked at Mike and took a swig of beer and said what's with the lady? She really blows my mind. Well, so long as we've got some time to kill, I think I'll have beer, but it wasn't exactly the help we hoped to find. He's a resume man. What the hell is that man? What?
Speaker 3the fuck is he talking about?
Speaker 4Fuck it.
Speaker 1We'll have an ex coming at you. Hold on people.
Speaker 5We've got new gritties. No one can it, says right here here. It's qualified 50 years on the job and the man's only 45.
Speaker 450 years on the job and the man's only 45. Wellness anxiety how we breathe, can directly influence the brain. All right, nice little palate cleanser at the end there, tim. All right, keep it going. We're moving along, and Elvis' Wild Ride is the next one.
Speaker 3The King, your very own Big Girl Band.
Speaker 4Big Girl Five Alright, alright, little.
Speaker 1Elvis. There the image is one thing and a human being is another.
Speaker 4He's trying to say my image is one thing, I'm a different person.
Speaker 6He's a different person. He was an interesting character. Maybe an alien. Maybe an alien. Yes, it was the gold belt that made me think you were an alien.
Speaker 4That sounds about right, I'll go with that.
Speaker 6Elvis, what do you think about Kang's mandolin here?
Speaker 1Oh, y'all never done sound too much.
Speaker 6Elvis, elvis.
Speaker 1Oh, okay.
Speaker 6Elvis, we're going to cut you off here.
Speaker 4Elvis, what was your favorite Bible passage? I want you to hold on to God's unchanging hand.
Speaker 1God help Joshua fight the battle of Jericho. Yes.
Speaker 6Yeah Kang.
Speaker 4It's like that.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 1Oh, it's disintegrating with this jam. The drop on you is my disintegrating pistol and brother, when it disintegrates, it disintegrates, disintegrates.
Speaker 6Disintegrates Again. Very technical.
Speaker 4A little hard to repeat. Oh, is that the? Is that the Aborigine thing?
Speaker 6Yes, the aboriginal.
Speaker 1I was born In that.
Speaker 4USA. Alright, thank you. Thank you, Billy Billy, Billy Crystal Doing Sammy Davis Jr. We'll have an ex come.
Speaker 1And ask you about people. There you go. It's doing Sammy Davis Jr. We'll have an egg scum. Actually Hold on. People, there you go.
Speaker 6I've got my space suit. I wonder if the astronauts love a ham egg and cheese.
Speaker 4The Elvis is wild ride. You know, this is kind of growing on me. It's almost put me in a trance.
Speaker 1Probably never down south too much, elvis.
Speaker 6He's going crazy. Elvis, you're cut off. We never agreed to have you as our guest. Okay, I know, stop time traveling, elvis.
Speaker 4Cut it out. That was the first time there was Elvis and a didgeridoo in the back.
Speaker 6Apparently with dinner. Elvis even eats with the beat.
Speaker 1I heard you should have seen me at dinner tonight when I was going In tempo. Oh yeah, I went up to the bathroom and did a little didgeridoo.
Speaker 4I never swallowed anything Didgeridoo.
Speaker 3You should have seen me at dinner tonight, man In tempo, oh yeah, climbing up the bathroom.
Speaker 1I never swallowed anything. Didgeridoo, didgeridoo, old son of a.
Speaker 4Whoa, I need a didgeridoo after that. Okay, all right. All right, bigger is better is the name of this next one.
Speaker 3Excuse me, russell, but I believe I requested the hand job, yeah.
Speaker 4So this is Bigger Isn't Better, but it's got like the same lyrics as like the next song.
Speaker 6It doesn't right now, it's got it the same lyrics as like the next song doesn't
Speaker 3right now it's it's got it, no, okay I don't know what that was now we got some like jazz fusion going on.
Speaker 6Yeah with.
Speaker 4Eric Clapton. It sounds like Clapton singing.
Speaker 6It does sound like a little Clapton. Yeah, I think this is maybe Kang singing.
Speaker 4Oh, really Wow.
Speaker 6He's really talented Jeez. I like this one a lot.
Speaker 4I do too. He's got a relaxing tempo too. I can spend the afternoons all alone.
Speaker 3Don't need much, Don't you know, I don't need a TV. I can see what's right. All you people, you're trying to sell the land. You don't see the problem.
Speaker 1You don't seem to understand To win is making one big mess the problem. Hello, I am Pepe the King Prawn again Pepe the King Prawn.
Speaker 3Bigger is it better.
Speaker 6Money is enough in that. Are you as big as a shrimp, or is a prawn as?
Speaker 4Prawns are usually bigger than shrimp.
Speaker 6Oh yeah, but it's not always better.

Speaker 6They have the Hammond organ on this one too.
Speaker 1I am so melancholy again.
Speaker 3That looked exactly like happy.
Speaker 4I am so melancholy.
Speaker 6How can you be melancholy and listen to the cheese incident? It is very unpleasant.
Speaker 1Well, I only took the one acting class again.
Speaker 6You don't have to act to like this. I would think Pepe would dig this oh yeah, he'd be in the front row Getting a heart attack. Kang would jump down. Give him a little CPR.
Speaker 3Resuscitate his puppet ass. You can always Now we do pension, get the Wisconsin.

Speaker 6Shout out to the shrimp eaters. Yeah, what is this? Yeah, I mean, this song just broadens their mass appeal, calypso sort of Right. Do they have any steel drums? I don't know, didn't service. I don't think travis plays steel drumming. There's a conga conga. Yes, definitely conga. It's a conga steel drum. That'd be cool if they included that there. Yeah, yeah. Shout out to Jamie Janover on this, I'm sure.
Jellyfish Brain Tequila Hangover Santa Fe
Speaker 4Yeah, playing bongos. Yeah, Well, she's the one who did the didgeridoo or? Is it a guy? I don't know. It could be either one. I don't want to get into Jamie's pronouns or anything. I just you know.
Speaker 3Jamie did a great job on these things. Let's put it that way.
Speaker 1Hmm, good, hmm, gender Edible. No, yeah, that was fine. What's this, what's this, what's that?
Speaker 4Jamie's gender is irrelevant in this conversation.

Speaker 3I know what might be fun.
Speaker 4All right, this is digging in.
Speaker 2Hey, we can't even get into like a second-rate hotel, I mean a second-rate motel, you dig.
Speaker 4Like a boy. This reminds me of Coming to America.
Speaker 6Oh yeah, it's a good song, it's more congas More flutes.

Speaker 4It's a palate cleanser in and of itself. Not that long it's only A little more than two and a half minutes A little hard to repeat, it's technical.
Speaker 2Oh these computers, they're so naughty and so complex.
Speaker 3I could pinch them.
Speaker 5How much more black could this be? Yes, how much more black could this be?
Speaker 2Very curious, very interesting.
Speaker 6I know Chandler likes this. Chandler, hey, wait, hey, he really likes this one. This song evades his privacy. It's good, okay, just like his roommates. Oh, hey, hey, whoa, whoa, nice All right, nice Alright.
Speaker 4This song is something else, yeah this is. This is a welcome escape from the conga drums.
Speaker 1Say uh, excuse me, Holmes, aha, what it is, bro, we're from out of town, no shit.
Speaker 4Okay, well, that's a time.
Speaker 1So long as we've got some time to kill, I think it's a nice image.
Speaker 6It tells a story.
Speaker 2Yeah, tells a story, yeah.
Speaker 4Time to kill. I think I'll have a beer.
Speaker 2So you're having beer in mushrooms and you're in Texas now. Okay, so you're running into the army. Pardon me, this is not good, pardon me.
Speaker 6Everybody just chill.
Speaker 3Man Chill.
Speaker 1Pardon me, I wonder if you could tell me how to get back on the expressway. Fuck your mama. Thank you very much.
Speaker 2But she wouldn't listen. Listen, she was calling the cops Cause her gutter had been smashed. And the next thing I knew. I walked outside there were police all around Asking who was driving the vehicle. Can I see your license? What you doing in our town?
Speaker 1Pig oink oink police officer.
Speaker 2Get me out of this small-time Texas town, cause I don't wanna be stuck in jail when the sun goes down. But you can't bust me if you don't know what you found. What's going to happen?
Speaker 4next.
Speaker 6Pardon me. Yeah, it's. That's why I love this. They set you up for this little story and then they have a solo like Right, and they leave you wondering.
Speaker 4So they're gonna search the car.
Speaker 2What are they gonna find? I think I'm gonna wake up back in the jungle. They're gonna find the mushrooms, yeah well.
Speaker 6It's a cooking mushrooms, mushrooms. Yeah, well, it's cooking mushrooms, come on yeah.
Speaker 3I'm tired of this, Grandpa. That's too damn bad. You keep digging.
Speaker 6Digging those jams.
Speaker 2Digging those jams and our little stash. But they didn't know what it was and let us go Minus 80 bucks in cash Woo.
Speaker 5Try not to get into too much trouble, because I don't want to be stuck in jail.
Speaker 2When the sun goes down. You can't bust me If you don't want to be stuck in jail when the sun goes down, but you can't bust me If you don't know what you found.
Speaker 4No, Wow, they were lucky.
Speaker 2Get me out of this small town. It sounds like a true story.
Speaker 6Oh, I'm sure I'll be running as soon as my feet hit the ground.
Speaker 2It sounds like something plausible. You can't bust me Cause you don't know what you found.
Speaker 6The premise is excellent. It's like a. It just goes. This song, this is definitely one of their.
Speaker 4Well, it's long but it's pleasant, you know, it keeps you wondering, it keeps you engaged.
Speaker 6For live performances. Texas is always up there. Yeah, as a set closer, or?
Speaker 1Somebody's been down here with the ugly stick.
Speaker 6You're all beautiful in Texas, okay, oh, I didn't know that that was directed towards Beautiful women.
Speaker 4Shout out to the Texas women.
Speaker 6Travis is in the jungle, travis. Every time I think I'm gonna wake up Back in the jungle.
Speaker 4It's insane how good Travis is. That's a cool jam right here.
Speaker 5Could've used a little more cowbell.
Speaker 4It's true.
Speaker 6Oh, this is Kang on his little effects and guitar. I don't know why they don't credit guitar for guitar on this Wikipedia. They're wrong. That's not right. Just check out live performances of it, You'll see it. The guitar just looks so like it piques your interest because it looks like a mandolin. But it's not, I know. But when?
Speaker 4I'm listening to this. You can hear just a little bit of David Gilmour. Oh, a little Gilmour.
Speaker 6Interesting. When I'm listening to this you can hear just a little bit of David Gilmour. Oh, A little Gilmour Interesting I'm hearing a little bit.
Speaker 4Wow, it's just Pink Floyd-ish, like that part, like shining a crazy diamond. Whoa, a little bit in there, wow, you heard.
Speaker 6I don't know, am I making shit up? No, that's, I'm hearing the same thing.
Speaker 2That's cool, Micah boy.
Speaker 6The sustain that he keeps is really good. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4Except for Blue Wave.
Speaker 6If you listen to this band with that auto-generator, that little sound wave thing that they used to offer for like Windows Media Player, oh, it's so good. Sure, yeah, just like.
Speaker 3What the fuck is he?
Speaker 6talking about the auto generator that you know the abstract lines that they make.
Speaker 4It's cool how they put those congas at the end. Wow, Okay, this last one. This is the last song You're doing great. It's Jellyfish Interesting. Now we were talking about Pink Floyd and now they start this off with a clock Kind of like. All right, yeah. Here we go, this guy's hungover on tequila.
Speaker 1His brain is a jellyfish.
Speaker 2We don't have no beer, just tequila. Just a jellyfish in the ocean in my head, because I drank too much tequila and I woke up seeing red, and now all I really want from life is to crawl back into bed On account that my brain is just a jellyfish in the ocean.
Speaker 4Who's singing this?
Speaker 2Well, I woke up this morning and the phone was ringing. My boss was talking, just kept on talking like a vacuum cleaner, Like a barking dog, like a headache screaming in my mental. Five Pulled out my pants, had to toss the door but the room began to spin and I fell Not sure. Come with us to Santa Fe.
Speaker 4Okay, so he's in the back of the Saab. He's supposed to be going to work. They're expecting him. He's got a hangover.
Speaker 2Sounds miserable.
Speaker 4It's too awful, shout out to Alice from Ice a dreamboat. It's too awful, she talked to Alice, that's why she chose.
Speaker 2It's only a dream, mary's mom.
Speaker 6Oh.
Speaker 2About to do some harm.
Speaker 4I don't know what it's for, like a mouse, oh wow. So he escapes. It's only a dream.
Speaker 2This guy's going back to work Cause I drank too much tequila and I woke up seeing red, and now all I really want from life is to crawl back into bed On account that my brain is just a jellyfish in the ocean of my head.
Speaker 5Yeah, it's like beer. Is it fattening? Yeah it hurts.
Speaker 4Alright chatty Latinas.
Speaker 1Forget it If it's like beer we'll have some Three tequilas, sure sure. Chevy Latinas Forget it. If it's like beer, we'll have some Three tequilas, sure sure amigo.
Speaker 2I arrived at work earlier the next morning. They said where have you been? Because the boss has been roaring. Never mind that. Listen to what I say, If you drink too much tequila.
Speaker 5Stay at home the next day. Try not to get into too much trouble, okay.
Speaker 4I like the horn part. Is it just like a generic thing that they're laying over it?
Speaker 6I think they have a horn guy. I just don't know who they're giving credit to this. Yeah, who's the horn guy? It's not on there. It's too awful. It's only a dream, santa Fe. Yeah, yeah, I'm digging this. This is, I know, the horn. I'm digging this. This is another horn. Check out the carnival 99 version of jellyfish. And Texas is on there as well. All listeners check out carnival 99. That's the classics.
Speaker 615 minute miss you really good, takes you on a journey yeah, I'll have to check it out David Attenborough, he loves cheese, he's a cheese head ok, I did not know that.
Speaker 4So is he's a cheesehead.
Speaker 6Okay, I did not know that so is. Uh, what else is a cheesehead?
Speaker 4Sandra Bullock probably Sure, why not yeah.
Speaker 6Our jellyfish. A life spent drifting in the empty ocean could be a lonely one, but not for this jellyfish.
Speaker 4Alright. Okay, we're at the end, man, Good listen. So now we gotta bring it full circle. Top three Are you ready? Let's see here. Alright, Top three in the waiting.
Speaker 6And Are you ready? Let's see here. All right, Top three in the waiting, and since they're all up for debate. Ideally this would be easy, but it's not.
Speaker 4It really is. There's a lot of good songs on here, but I know what my three are.
Speaker 6They haven't changed All right a lot of good songs on here, but I I know what my three are. They haven't. All right, I'm gonna go number three.
Speaker 4It's gonna be land's end okay, yeah, I can see that. Yeah, great song it's got to be on there.
Speaker 6Okay, that's your number three. Takes you away another dimension like that verydo-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do. Like that beginning, very rhythmic, very meditative. That's my three, yeah.
Speaker 4Okay, my number three is going to be Jellyfish, the one that we just heard oh okay, yeah, I can see that for you. Well, I like the story. You know this is kind of new to me, like that song, and as I read it it was just it drew me in instantly. I want to know where. You know I like the stories that they're telling in these you know, things yeah Kind of tall tales or whatever you know, based off of real life event kind of things.
Speaker 4And we've all kind of been there where you got a really bad hangover and you got abducted and you come back to work the next day. It's like this is all happening while you're having a hangover. You're being all cool about it, and so that's why it's my number three.
Speaker 6Okay, all right, yeah, I mean number two, oh, man, and definitely I'm going to give bigger isn't better to another listen and Johnny Cash. Those both deserve honorable mentions, I agree. Um, and black clouds, obviously honorable mention. It feels feels wrong to not include them, but they're all great songs. Um, and we'll throw Lester, had a coconut in there for mention, but yeah, really it was different. I agree, I'm going Texas.
Speaker 4Number two Okay, now we're talking.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 4Nice.
Speaker 6It's such a good song, it's this journey, it's the getting out of, getting out of dodge, but also, you know, taking some risks and your risk, uh, and you know, getting out of your comfort zone and also, yeah, getting away with it, I guess right, in a way, there you go yeah beating the system is kind of good yeah, that was that sort of like the yeah, you, yeah, that's true, because they get out of it.
Speaker 4My number two is Land's End. And I like the trippiness of it and it was very melodic and kind of soothing at times. But it takes you on a journey and you go to different places and the music is yeah, you go deeper and deeper, and that's why that's my number.
Speaker 6Down music is yeah, you go deeper and deeper and that's why that's my number two hell, yeah, all right, yeah, well then, I guess you know the jellyfish is going to be my number one. It is, yeah. Shout out to janicek for teaching those lyrics on the soccer, soccer pitch in high school. To get me into string cheese, man. You gotta know string cheese, yeah, man.
Speaker 3You got to know string cheese yeah.
Speaker 6It's like you know, get almost indoctrinated with these jam bands early. Yeah, and uh, yeah. I mean seeing them is just a phenomenal experience.
Speaker 4Yeah, I'd love to see so many cool people so many. Yeah, it's just a, it's like a, like a plot is a good it, but it's a good environment, it's a good atmosphere, good music, positive, that kind of thing.
Speaker 6Yeah, tight eyes.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 6How many clothes everywhere?
Speaker 4All right, it's great. My number one is going to be Texas. Oh yeah, it's just a great song and I like the story. Again, great storytelling and you're wondering what's going on. And it's kind of hilarious at the end where they beat the man because they don't know what they found.
Speaker 6And Alice, and Alice's mom.
Speaker 4Yep.
Speaker 6Oh no, that's Texas yeah.
Speaker 4Well, that's my number one. Yeah, in Texas. Yeah, that's a part of it.
Speaker 6Yeah, I get those two confused, but yes, All right man. Well, are you all right, man, well, you're gonna put a bow on this, let's just tie it up real tight here we go.
Speaker 4All right, it's tied. Yeah well, everybody, thanks again for listening. Keep keep listening, keep downloading. All right, jam on, have a good one bye.
