Quincy Jones produced, worked with him during Off the Wall in 1979. We're going to get into all the songs. The amazing thing about this album is that all like there are nine songs, and seven of them are all songs that everybody knows, like all over the world, and it was a thing that Michael Jackson set out to do when he made this album. He was tired of you know one or two hits on a song. Why can't all of them be? You know great songs on the whole album being hits and emission accomplished. So kudos to Michael. God rest his soul. But nevertheless, we're going to do what we always do. We're going to. We're going to chat it up In the beginning of the show. We're going to listen to every song on this album. Rank our top three non-hits, but in this album, since all of them are hits, I think, with the exception of two, then we're going to just give you our three favorites, because I think it's worthy. You know, to just like, how would you rank Beat it versus Billy Jean, versus Thriller, versus Human Nature versus PYT? Everybody's got their song. You know. They may be the one that is the most downloaded, you know, or whatever, but they're, all you know, big songs and it's. You know. People are particular about the songs that they like. Speaker 3:A lot of musicians on this album. There were a lot of contributors, you know. It's not worth saying that. You know, of course, there were the guys from Toto. We all know that Eddie Van Halen played guitar on Beat it. You know you have the great guitar solo. I think it was Steve Lukather from Toto who did the rhythm guitar on that one. I think they did it for beer or something like that, I don't know. I hope hopefully Eddie got some nice Heideken to Steve Lukather's Blats or whatnot.
Speaker 3:But that's neither here nor there. We're here to celebrate this album, listen to the songs, have some fun along the way. We've got some great sound clips. We've got great pop culture references taxi driver, old school, not in school, wedding crashers, you name it. We've got it. So we're going to listen to everything.
Speaker 3:What else can I say about this? I think Baby Be Mine and the Lady of my Life are probably the two I think they're the two least down-literative of all the songs. But there's PYT, human Nature, billie Jean Beat it, thriller, the Girl Is Mine, duet with Paul McCartney. I just read everything in the pre-versed order. Tim over there just conked his head on the lamp there. We're getting off to a good start, man. We're getting off to a scary start. We hope everybody has a happy and safe Halloween. Speaker 3:Some of the writers who collaborated see. Rod Temperton wrote Thriller. He wrote the Lady of my Life, steve Piccaro from Toto and John Battis wrote Human Nature. I didn't know that. James Ingram and Quincy Jones wrote Pretty Young Thing. Rod Temperton also wrote Baby Be Mine. Michael Jackson wrote Want to Be Starting Something. He also wrote the Girl Is Mine with Paul McCartney. There are buds back in the day.
Speaker 3:I think Michael Jackson ruffled Paul McCartney's feathers a little bit when he bought the Beatles album collection. They had it falling out. I don't think they ever reconciled thereafter? I think it was a little. From what I read, it was contentious. That's all in the past. What we have left is some really incredible music. That's what's going to last, anyway. Janet Jackson, I think. Latoya they sing background vocals, janet Latoya who else? Maxine Waters what is this? I don't think it's the same. The Congresswoman this is just. I think it was on the first track. Julia Waters, all background vocals. Vincent Price does the voiceover on Thriller at the very end. Nobody knows who he was that guy. He used to do a lot of comedy, I think House on the Haunted Hill. You would see his movies on Saturday mornings along with the cartoons back in the 70s. That's how I remember him. He was always on those 70s variety shows. So shout out to Vincent Price. Passed away. Oh, october 25th 1993. Not too far off from Halloween. He was 82 though, so that's interesting. But what else can I say?

You know, I used to listen to albums at my house. We had stacks of them. This off the wall was, you know, my launching point to Michael Jackson, and he worked with Rod Temperton on that one. I think he played more of a role in where Quincy Jones, I guess, took the stage on this one and Temperton took a back seat. So but you know, it'd be interesting to get Tim. Tim was negative, I don't know four or five when this came out. Well, how you doing bud?

Speaker 3:I got the songs on a loop. All right, I'm turning those off. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4:Now I remember going to visit like my parents' family friend in New York and they just had a huge TV and the thriller, the thriller and beat it and all the Michael Jackson videos were on and I was just like glued to the television. They're like Tim, this is whoever, and I'm like uh-huh, no, I'm watching this craziness on the TV, Do you see this? And I was just like I had never seen anything like it.
Speaker 3:People flipped man when he first did the moonwalk. That was like a huge thing.
Speaker 4:Holy moly. His dancing skills, above all, was the most amazing thing of it. The makeup and the coordination was just nothing like I'd ever seen. And still to this day, I have pipe dreams of orchestrating a choreographing, maybe a short staged dance for a group of my friends to maybe watch. I don't know what song it would be, I don't know what song, but you need a song.
Speaker 3:Yeah Well, he had the upbeat songs, he had some disco songs, he had some, you know, I guess, r&b songs on this. And then you've got another category of, let's say, you know, rock and horror with thriller, and then so it wasn't all they were trying, they were coming out of disco and I think that they wanted this to be a little bit more Makes sense. He's more accessible to other people with other musical tastes, and so they brought in all those collaborators and I think that that's what I mean.
Speaker 3:that was a big part of it. It was that you could like the unbeat it, the, you know, the rhythm guitar and the guitar solo kind of gave it, you know, a toughness, which was really cool at that time.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it was crossing heavy metal with that even hailing it was spooky, but year round spooky.
Speaker 3:Yeah, but not just soulful things. So too.
Speaker 4:There's some ballads. The girl is mine, the girl is mine, you know had all those. So I'm not familiar with off off the wall. I'll have to give that a listen.
Speaker 3:It was more disco-y, but it was really really good. I you've heard a few of the songs. I'm sure you listen to it, you know, but this took it to the next level and it really did.
Speaker 4:I guess what is this? Beat out the Eagles as a hotel. California is one of the best. It was between between them and this album, and then eventually it's the best selling album of all time, with estimated sales of 66 million copies worldwide.
Speaker 3:Wow, just one eight grand album maybe four. It was like I said seven singles reached the top 10. That's insane.
Speaker 4:Only the second and third song were not released as singles, which, yeah, the lady of my life, at the very end.
Speaker 3:And then yeah, the girl be my or no? Well, the girl is mine, was a hit, that was the one with Paul McCartney. And then is it baby mine. I don't know, I don't know, I got all confused here. Well, let's see if we go to the talk amongst the girls.

Speaker 4:If you don't listen to the lyrics as much, then it's like starting something fun, like starting a party, or it can be vaguely Like starting beef.

I'd kind of freak out. I would be second guessing whether I want to be in this fight. For that reason, I accept that as your number 3.

Speaker 3:Mine is going to be. I'm going to go with one of those two songs that are we're not part of the seven, that we're all top tens should be in here somewhere. So I'm going to say the lady in my life, there it is, because there isn't, you can make a case that it's a better song than Billie Jean in my opinion, or a pretty young thing for sure there. So, yeah, it takes it down. It's a slow song, it sounds authentic, it sounds like a good. He's not faking the sensual aspect of that song. It comes off as very authentic and so that's why it's my number three.

Speaker 3:Yeah, because it just rocks. It's got that cool guitar, it's got a great beat to it, his lyric, I mean his voice over. How can it not be an incredible song with Michael Jackson's voice over? Even Lukather does a great job, you know, keeping the rhythm down while Eddie Van Halen does that song.
Speaker 4:So yeah, it's my number two. The West Side Story vibes to it, that's right, all right. Yeah, my number one it's Billy Jean. I mean, what a, what a, what a banger. It's a banger in the queue. Hell yeah, it's such an obvious banger. But it's also like just it just slaps and hits in a nonviolent way.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's just this kind of like in the heavy metal world. It would sort of be, you know, like like those those famous intros of ACDC, like right House Bells or like yeah, or even you shook me all night long or it's catchy yeah. Like or what's. That's the one. Yeah, but you get the idea. Oh yeah, I get it. But that intro to Billy Jean is there, yeah, but having said that, I mean that's the obvious choice as a number one.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it's no, it's no coincidence that it's, you know, listen to three times over versus any other song on here. But in my opinion, the best song on here is Thriller. Hell yeah, because there's there's horns, there's you know, it's like there's disco, there's soul, there's the horror, there's Vincent Price, there's all kinds of stuff going on, incredible video. And it changed the world for sure. It changed MTV and it changed music. I think that song changed music more than any other. Wow. So Thriller has.
